I am a protein geek. Proteins are super inspiring! I find it amazing that a tiny vocabularly of simple building blocks, strung together in the right order, can generate essentially all of the molecular machines and materials that make life possible.

Proteins are one of the coolest things I’ve ever learned about. In an intro biochemistry class in college, I remember hearing that sickle-cell anemia was caused by a single mutation to an exposed amino acid that altered the entire shape of the red blood cell—and I was hooked. I joined Generate because I loved the idea of getting to work on protein science in a practical and immediately therapeutically relevant manner.

I have spent my scientific career fascinated by the structure-function relationships of proteins and other biomolecules. The ability to not only better understand this but to harness that understanding to create better medicines has always been a dream of mine. Joining Generate was a dream come true, in a way.

I joined Generate because I was surprised by the technology that had been built. Protein design is a really tough problem, and I really believed I saw something incredible when I was first learning about Generate's technology platform.
